    The 4th of July is our most patriotic holiday. Cook-outs, barbecues, watermelon and iced tea--but where are the fireworks? Here's a list of where you can find some great firework displays in the Huntsville & north Alabama area in 2011.

    1. July 1-4, 2011: Alabama Songwriters Competition (Guntersville)

    Mountain Valley Arts Council 10th Anniversary of the Alabama Songwriters Competition celebration at City Harbor, Guntersville, Alabama.  Four days of free fun filled family entertainment.  Wakeboard contest; Veteran's Salute; live music under the tent and appearance by Chris Cavanaugh; songwriters competition; food and beverage vendors; children's carnival rides and face-painting; All American Arts Exhibit at the MVAC Gallery.  For more information, call 256-571-7199. 

    2. July 3-4, 2011: Spirit of America Festival (Decatur)

    Free. Join us at Point Mallard park for the Decatur area's largest patriotic festival. There will be awards, the Miss Point Mallard Pageant, children's activities, musical entertainment and a large fireworks display. For more info, call 800-524-6181.

    3. July 4, 2011: Sand Mountain Potato Festival (Henagar)

    Sand Mountain is well known for its rich diversity of agricultural products, including potatoes. Celebrate our heritage with live music, arts and crafts, entertainment, games and fireworks. Held in the Henagar Park. Event begins at 10 a.m. and culminates with a beautiful fireworks display. 256-657-6282

    4. July 4, 2011: 4th of July on the Tennessee River (Scottsboro)

    Free. Goose Pond Colony--Music, entertainment (featuring 6 acts from up-and-coming Nashville artists), huge boat parade, food, and big fireworks show at the amphitheater. 6 p.m. until.   For more info, call 800-259-5508.

    5. July 4, 2011: Dual Fireworks at Bridge Street Town Centre

    The U.S. Space & Rocket Center and Bridge Street Town Centre will host a day of events culminating in a dramatic duel fireworks show. The celebration at Bridge Street will include a full day of exciting, family friendly activities including live musical entertainment, the annual SmokeHouse wing eating contest, face painters, balloon artists and much, much more. 

    6. July 4, 2011: US Space & Rocket Center (Dual Fireworks)

    At the US Space & Rocket Center:  Museum Closed after 5pm, but gates to the facility re-open at 7pm for the first 2011 people to go online (http://www.spacecamp.com/store/FireworksCelebration.html/) and reserve a prime spot for fireworks viewing. Until the show starts, you can enjoy:

    Kids Cosmos
    Continuous "Create-Your-Own-Rocket" Launches
    Family Photos with Space Camp mascots
    Food & Beverages for purchase
    Rocket City Jazz band live underneath Pathfinder shuttle
    Fireworks Show at 8:45pm - 20 minutes long and synced with Bridge Street's show.

    7. July 4, 2011: 4th of July Celebration (Grant)

    Admission charged. Grant City Park--Celebration will include food, games, car and motorcycle show, crafts and fireworks finale. 5-9 p.m. For more info, call 256-728-2007.

    8. July 4, 2011: Reliance Bank Firecracker Festival (Athens)

    Athens H.S.--Enjoy a celebration of our nation's independence with fireworks, games, live music and concessions. 3-10 p.m. For more info, call 256-233-8585.

    9. July 4, 2011: Shoals Spirit of Freedom Celebration (Florence)

    McFarland Park--Nationally-known musicians perform all day, food vendors on site, followed by the largest fireworks show in the area. 10:30 a.m.-11 p.m.

    10. July 4, 2011: Smith Lake Park Independence Day Festival (Cullman)

    Smith Lake Park--All-day entertainment, arts and crafts, food vendors, fireworks show over the water, camping, swimming, water slide, putt-putt golf and much more.
