Yarmouth 250th Celebrations

    Thursday, June 9 is a key date for Yarmouth’s 250 celebrations, with close to a dozen activities taking place throughout the county.
    The events will celebrate the arrival of the shallop Pompey Dick, which sailed up the Chebogue River on Tuesday, June 9, 1761. Aboard were Yarmouth County’s first English settlers: Ebenezer Ellis, Sealed Landers and Moses Perry, all from Sandwich, Cape Cod.
    Following is a list of June 9 events:
    8:30 a.m. Raising of 250th anniversary flag across from Town Hall on Main Street.
    9:30 a.m. Unveiling of photographic mural on brick wall of Spears and MacLeod Pharmasave on John Street.
    11 a.m. Historic tree planting at Sealed Landers Park in Milton.
    1:30 to 3 p.m. Rhubarb festival at Le Village in West Pubnico.
    1:30 p.m. Unveiling of interpretive panel at Sealed Landers Park in Milton.
    4:00 p.m. Commemoration of the historic landing of the first British settlers - the Shelburne Longboat Society will carry local re-enactors from Town Point Wharf to Anthony's Creek where the landing will be staged. There will be no entry to this area from the Rockville/Kelly's Cove direction.
    6:30 p.m. Yarmouth CBDC presents the 250th Natal Day Quiz at Meadowfields Community School.
    7:30 Town Hall military freedom ceremony.
