    Sixty days of celebration will lead up to the City of Scottsdale’s 60th anniversary on June 25, 2011. These events are created and hosted both by the City of Scottsdale and by community groups and businesses.

    The 60th anniversary celebrations scheduled through June 8 are:

    Vote for Your Favorite Scottsdale 60th Showpiece Cake Concept
    Chef Tracy DeWitt can handle the heat of the kitchen. She has proved that both as an instructor at Scottsdale’s Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts, and also as a five-time competitor on Food Network Challenge.  Now, she is creating a one-of-a-kind showpiece cake to celebrate Scottsdale’s 60th anniversary – and she is asking the community to help select the final design.

    One with the Eagle Sculpture Rededication
    The iconic bronze sculpture One with the Eagle, by Pat Mathiesen, which was originally donated by citizens in 1988 and graced the entrance of Scottsdale Airpark, will be re-dedicated in a community ceremony.  The dedication will take place at the new permanent location of the sculpture.

    National Trails Day Hike the Preserve
    Join us for any or all of these activities: MSC steward led human history of the McDowell Mountains hike; nature guide led National Trails Day games and activities exploring summer in the Preserve; community service project to pick-up litter, pull weeds, and help with basic trimming.

    Dedication of Scottsdale High School plaque Dedication of Scottsdale High School plaque
    Scottsdale High School was located at that site on the corner of Indian School Road and Buckboard.  A plaque provided by Scottsdale High alumni will be placed at the site in recognition of the school that was once located there.

    Alamos Band Stand Plaque Rededication
    In 1969 a band stand was constructed at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park to commemorate the sister city relationship between Alamos, Sonora, Mexico and the City of Scottsdale.  In later years it was moved within the park and the original dedication plaque was misplaced.  A new bronze plaque will be rededicated and immediately following the dedication is a free 'Sunday Night Concert Series' performance.

    Fan Grabber/Paradise Valley Rotary 2011 Charity Golf Tournament and Silent Auction
    Jude Lacava from Channel 10 Sports will be there to greet the golfers.  It will be a great day to golf, bid on silent auction items and celebrate Scottsdale's 60th anniversary.

    The Pink Pony Rides Again! - daily
    Scottsdale’s oldest restaurant (est. 1947) is honoring the past by hosting a display of photos and memorabilia on loan from the Scottsdale Historical Society.  The Pink Pony will also be dedicating a dish weekly which will represent the Pony’s shared history with the city of Scottsdale throughout the decades.   The recipes will be available to Pink Pony Patrons.

    Young Artists and Authors Showcase
    The theme is "Shaping Your Community for a Greener Future" for the 23rd Annual 'Young Artists and Authors Showcase' exhibition sponsored by the Scottsdale Sister Cities Association.
    The competition of high school art and writing submissions from throughout Scottsdale will be professionally juried.

    Showcase display of Miss Arizona's Crown handcrafted in 1969 by Paul Johnson Jewelers— June 2, 4, 6 and 7
    This spectacular crown is a one-of-a-kind work of Art designed by the Memorable Paul Johnson and handcrafted in 1969.  The crown was gifted to The Miss Arizona Scholarship Foundation that annually awards state scholarships for academic achievements and outstanding community service.
