Even with the JEM attack on Khartoum just a week before the 17 th of May celebrations went on in their traditional way at the Norwegian embassy. About 50 Norwegians and embassy staff came together to celebrate the national day of Norway.
The day started with a speech by the ambassador and singing the national hymn. Then everybody joined in a march around the embassy, with a small band containing of a drum and a saxophone. Afterwards there was a food and refreshments by the pool. The embassy had imported special Norwegian 17th of May food for the occasion, so all the Norwegians were happy about that. Later on there were games for the kinds and some of the adults also joined in. The weather was perfect because it was not to hot, and we even had a small rain shower during the day. The people wearing the Norwegian national costumes (made of thick wool) were able to keep them on for the whole 3 hours of the arrangement.
In the evening there was a big reception at the embassy with all Norwegians and friends of Norway in Khartoum. There was some musical entertainment and a speech by the ambassador and the minister of environment.
