Nimishamba Jayanthi - 23 May 2010
Discourse by Parama Pujya Shri Shri Nimishananda Guruji
Devi Nimishamba Jayanthi was celebrated on 23 May 2010 under the August presence of Parama Pujya Shri Shri Nimishananda Guruji. The celebration saw four Homas - Ganapathi Homa, Navagraha Homa, Chandika Homa and Nimishamba Homa. This was followed by Annadana (free distribution of food), where several poor people partook lunch Prasada (consecrated food). The celebration concluded with the discourse of Parama Pujya Shri Shri Nimishananda Guruji on the significance of Jayanthi (the day of manifestation of the Divine Form on earth) celebrations. Thus spoke Pujya Guruji.
1. The Divine Mother has brought us here today to celebrate Her Jayanthi. After attaining a human birth, we will be able to attend religious functions, especially Jayanthi celebrations, only if our karma has been worked out to a certain extent.
2. A Self Realised Soul creates opportunities for people to work out their karmas by conducting several religious festivals, most importantly the Jayanthi celebrations of a Divine Form.
3. On our part, we must put in an effort to attain God because in this Dark Age (Kaliyuga), desires and attachments attract us. In this age, we need not put in any effort to form habits & addictions, to get attracted towards worldly things like movies, shopping, engage in negative thoughts etc. but certainly we need to apply effort to turn towards Divinity, participate in Homa and other religious festivals. The human mind has a tendency to postpone the Divine activities but immediately engage in worldly pursuits.
4. There are three important points we must all remember regarding any Jayanthi celebrations.
4.1. Eligibility to attend Jayanthi celebrations.
4.1.1. Only when our karmas (fruits of our past actions) have been worked out, we become eligible to attend Jayanthi celebrations.
4.1.2. We need invitation to attend social events but need no invitation to participate in Jayanthi celebrations. If the news of the Jayanthi celebrations falls on our ears, we must make it a point to attend.
4.1.3. This is why the Jayanthi celebrations were being organised from the olden times in holy places like the banks of a river, where many people visit such spots to swim in the water, for picnicking, to relax etc. The visitors now get an opportunity to participate in the Jayanthi and take the Prasada in the form of lunch or kumkum that will enable them to work out the last bit of their karma.
4.1.4. So, whatever Jayanthi celebrations you hear of - Hanuman Jayanthi, Basava Jayanthi, Shankara Jayanthi, Narasimha Jayanthi, Nimishamba Jayanthi etc., we should go to the temple of that Deity, prostrate and partake Prasada.
4.1.5. Anyone can celebrate Jayanthi, irrespective of caste, creed etc. This must be celebrated in all the grandeur.
4.2. Birth of a new inner mind.
4.2.1. The five elements of Prithvi (Earth), Jala (Water), Agni (Fire), Vayu (Air) and Akasha (Ether) start constituting the body around our soul right from the time we were in our mother's womb.
4.2.2. At the same time, our past lives' karmic tendencies will have got etched in our inner mind while we were in our mother’s womb itself. This decides our education, our health, mental and physical characteristics / abilities – in short our fate. It is this etching of our past tendencies in our inner mind drives the way of working of our mind and intellect in this life. Love, care, compassion, saintly way of life, anger, hatred, jealousy, cruelty, animal tendencies are all the expressions of the past tendencies that have got etched in our inner mind during the time we were in our mother's womb. Everything in our present life is programmed to a very minute detail by these past tendencies.
4.2.3. Participating in Jayanthi celebrations will keep the fruits of our past tendencies at bay on this day. When we celebrate the Jayanthi of any Form of Divinity; for example, today is Nimishamba Jayanthi – the Divine Mother infuses us with new strength and energy. She erases the old writing and etches the new in our inner mind. We will now have a fresh inner mind filled with Divine feelings, inner strength, strong Will power - all multiplied several fold when compared to our old self.
4.2.4. The Guru smoothens the rough edges of our anger, greed and the other inner enemies and carves out a beautiful mind for us. The Guru not only sculpts a new inner mind for us but also fills it with new power. Just like the stone idol becomes filled with energy by Prana Prathishtapana (consecration), so also our newly formed inner mind gets the power when the Guru infuses it with His Energy. Thus, celebrating Jayanthi in the presence and under the guidance of the Guru is very very important.
4.2.5. We get several Jayanthis in a year. We must participate in as many of them as possible by offering our mind to that particular form of Divinity so that our mind will be etched with a new form and filled with a new power. Only when we offer our mind, our old tendencies will dissolve and a new mind will be born with fresh energy.
4.2.6. Celebrating Jayanthi will bring about auspiciousness in our lives - unmarried people will get married, children will be born to childless couple etc.
4.2.7. An ordinary mind cannot hold Divine Grace for long because it is very unstable; gets easily swayed by temptations. It is like carrying water in our palms - it leaks away in no time. We may be strong physically but our mind is very weak. Jayanthi gives us the inner strength to bring about fullness in our lives. It gives us will power and stability that leads to accomplishment of our goals in life.
4.2.8. Celebrating Jayanthi of a Divine Form is actually to celebrate the birth of our inner mind. A new mind is born on this day and it signifies victory to you. So, offer your mind to Divinity with a prayer today, “O! Divine Mother, my mind is weak, oscillating, indecisive, filled with duality and temptations. Please take this mind and infuse it with Your Grace to give it a new lease of life of will power, strength, stability and decision making ability.†The process of transformation automatically starts from the moment we start engaging in Jayanthi celebrations. Our prayer gives the finishing touch to the birth of a new mind.
4.2.9. We are intellectually sharp when it comes to worldly matters but our mind is very weak and insensitive when it comes to spiritual matters - it is not as soft as butter. Today, the Divine Mother infuses our mind with strength, energy, inspiration, faith and dedication. You will notice from today that you will have greater motivation and accomplishment from today.
4.3. Belief and Faith in oneself.
4.3.1. In spite of all the worship that we do, we lose confidence in ourselves when we are put into trial.
4.3.2. We believe in God but not ourselves. When we approach God with our worship, He is ready to Bless us. In Kaliyuga, God can only send his Blessings and Grace to our mind. Gods Grace in our mind then flowers as peace and tranquility inside and success outside. Without confidence in ourselves, we cannot hold this Grace in our mind for long because it constantly oscillates.
4.3.3. When we participate in a Homa or any other religious celebration, we will get calmness and peace in our mind. How long will this remain? Only as long as we can retain it. A mind lacking faith in itself cannot retain it for long.
4.3.4. Grace is like a seed sown in the ground of our mind. If our mind oscillates because of lack of confidence, the soil is not held together. When we have a mind of confidence, the soil is held together and the seed has all the opportunity to germinate. Germination of the seed of Grace is to accomplish our tasks.
4.3.5. How do we establish a confident mind to retain the Grace? Remember that today is Jayanthi and the Divine Mother has blessed us with Her Grace. Continue to remember this constantly for the next four days and it becomes a habit. Develop this faith that you have received the Grace and you will not allow it to be dislodged. Then it will then be firmly established in your mind. Once this happens, you will have confidence in yourself.
4.3.6. Do whatever you do with complete confidence in yourself and you will receive a new strength and energy.
4.3.7. We must be a creeper clinging to Divine Mother's Feet, which is the supporting tree. If we try to stand alone like a tree, we will be uprooted by the storm of troubles and worries of life.
5. The energy in us will automatically change. But we must change our personality. Because we have not changed our personality, we have not been able to earn God's Grace. Though we are eligible to have His Grace, past karmas are preventing us from earning It. Observing Jayanthi establishes victory over our past karmas to allow God's Grace to flow freely.
6. God's always are victorious, however much the Demons may fight with them. But failure is imminent to a human being with a weak mind. Celebrating Jayanthi brings victory to us through the establishment of a strong and stable mind.
7. Gods do not need to celebrate Their birthday. Celebrating Jayanthi (God's birthday) gives us victory to our mind, intellect, name, fame, joy, health and wealth. It puts us always in the first position. We are born to win and not to lose.
8. God has given us all our faculties and skills to achieve our goals. Engage in achievement of our goals with complete confidence in your self and victory shall be yours. When you have the confidence in yourself, you will generate confidence in others who listen to you.
9. We have developed a wrong notion that success in only for certain people. To succeed, we do not need to have age behind us. A strong mind is sufficient to bring us success in life. Irrespective of the age of the body, a strong mind is a source of will power, which will bring success at any age.
10. Till today if your mind was weak, don't worry. Realise that from today the Divine Mother's Grace can strengthen your mind and instantaneously change your life for the best .
11. If your work does not get accomplished with a certain person, then think that it is meant to happen from another person. Never stop...continue to proceed.
12. Therefore, celebrate Jayanthi in the right spirit by offering your mind at the Lotus Feet of the Divine Mother and have complete faith that She has shaped a completely new mind for you. You will emerge a new person from today. Without this confidence and faith, it will just turn out to be another day of religious celebration without any transformation.
May all beings be happy.
