Armed Forces Day, May 21, is a day to honor all armed forces, past and present, to show support for what they do and to remember that people in this country can live their lives in freedom because of them.
The American Legion James R. Hickey Post No. 120 in Palmyra will host a celebration.
Event highlights
1 May 21: 9 a.m. 5K race. Register at 8:15 a.m. at the Palmyra-Macedon High School football field, where the race begins
3 p.m. Parade line-up on Canal and Mill streets in Palmyra
4 p.m. Parade begins
6:30 p.m. Canaltown Chorale at Event Barn at the Fairgrounds
7:30 p.m. Finger Lakes Jazz Orchestra at the Event Barn at the Fairgrounds
9 p.m. Fireworks at the Fairgrounds
2 May 22: Noon Opening ceremonies at the Fairgrounds
12:30 Lunch available for purchase at the Fairgrounds
1 to 3 p.m. Vendor stands and displays for viewing from the following organizations at the Fairgrounds: Kids Boot Camp; Wayne County Sheriffs Mobile Command Center; American Red Cross Bloodmobile, where donations can be given; Veteran’s Center Mobile Service Center, Fort Drum; military recruiters; sheriffs patrol cars; ambulances; Border Patrol; Army vehicles; VFW recruiting booth; fire trucks; police cars; Veterans Administration booth; Army helicopters landing
3 to 5 p.m. K9 demonstrations and equestrian drill team performance. Both in 4-H horse arena.
5:15 p.m. Closing ceremonies at the flagpole in front of Floral Hall
3 Classic car show from 1 to 3 p.m. May 22 at the Fairgrounds

WHEN from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, May 21 and from noon to 5:15 p.m. Sunday, May 22.
WHERE at the Wayne County Fairgrounds on Jackson Street in Palmyra.
COST free both days with exception of 5K May 21, which is $15 for registration. Veterans run free.
PARKING both days is at the Palmyra-Macedon High School. Shuttle busses will be available. Handicap parking with sticker available at Fairgrounds.
